Will they test your child for covid-19 when schools reopen?
New federal coronavirus guidance does not recommend universal testing of all students and staff in K-12 schools.
The idea has been considered as educators and policymakers seek ways to safely return students to their classrooms.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends testing for K-12 students should focus on:

1. Those with symptoms.

2. Those who may have been exposed to infected individuals.

The Chronicle has asked the county's 5 districts what they plan to do about testing at schools.

Universal testing may be logistically challenging and disruptive,.

It could create concerns about issues like resources, parental consent, and student privacy, says the guidance.

It is not known if testing in school settings provides any additional reduction in person-to-person transmission of the virus.
