Lawmakers and the governor may not have to look far to sell Santee Cooper.

The state’s 20 electric cooperatives are interested in buying the troubled taxpayer-owned utility if it’s in the interests of their members.

Electric Cooperatives of S.C. CEO Mike Couick told the Chronicle his group advises lawmakers to:

• Test the market for potential buyers and consider selling to the one that makes the most sense for the cooperatives’ members.
