Pelion police make arrest in burglaries

Posted

In the early morning hours on the 15th of July, officers of the Pelion Police Dept arrested Kevin Earl Schumpert, 33 of West Columbia, on charges of Auto Breaking, 2 counts of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Burglary Tools, 2 counts of Attempted Grand Larceny, and Entering into Enclosed Spaces between 6 pm - 6 am, the department announced Friday. These charges stem from Schumpert getting caught behind Pelion
High School siphoning gas from a school bus. Upon further investigation it was ascertained that Schumpert was in possession of a stolen Ford F350 with a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle in the
bed of the truck. Also in his possession were several tools commonly used in the commission of auto thefts. A search of the stolen Ford F350 revealed several other stolen items connecting Schumpert to other thefts in the surrounding jurisdictions. It was further discovered that Schumpert had attempted to steal two John Deere Gators which were locked behind a fence that he damaged to gain entry.
Schumpert is currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $28,000 Surety bond.
