River Bluff principal wins national honor

Winning National School Principal of the Year is becoming a local tradition.
Luke Clamp, River Bluff High’s principal, has been named 2019 winner of the National Association of Secondary School Principals honor. He is the second county principal to win after Chapin High Principal Akil Ross earned it last year.
Clamp is the first and only principal of River Bluff which opened in 2011.
He learned he won at a surprise pep rally with hundreds of students, Gov. Henry McMaster and state Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman present.
What did he think decided this honor in his favor?
“Any achievement has been on the shoulders of many,” he said.
“Founding a school to innovate in ways never done in public education allowed our team the chance to dream and create a personalized learning experience for every student.
“In 5 years many academic, athletic and arts achievements have come but those that are valued the most are the ones that have contributed to a better community.  Seeing students give of their time and resources so serve others are the accomplishments I cherish the most.”
Clamp said he felt called to public education as a high school student.
“Growing up in the home of an educator laid a firm foundation on how servant leadership renders amazing opportunities to influence student’s lives and futures.
“My mother was an elementary teacher, principal and superintendent and was an incredible model.
“I treat every interaction with students, their families and staff as a chance to serve.  I believe they have the potential to be the next greatest generation.”
He said he aspires to see River Bluff students excel beyond their potential while becoming ethical people, effective learners and contributors to a better world.
“Following my God’s plan, continuing to serve in public education in South Carolina would be an honor.”
