A contract crew working for SCE&G conducted controlled underground blasting in West Columbia between Kay Koon Lane and Redbird Drive last Tuesday.

SCE&G said the work was safely confined to a small area on existing SCE&G rights-of-way. People in the general area may have heard or felt two brief rumbles.

The work removed underground rock to make room for the concrete foundations that will support new electric poles.
