School District Five announces new principal for Harbison West Elementary

Posted

Lexington-Richland School District Five has named longtime educator Randy Norman the new principal of Harbison West Elementary School.

Norman has served as both assistant principal and administrative assistant principal at Nursery Road Elementary School since 2014.  He replaces Ed Davis, who was named the new principal of Chapin Intermediate School in May.

I am excited to be awarded the opportunity to join a great Harbison West Elementary School community where excellence is priority,” said Norman. “I am also looking forward to being a part of the Harbison West family where we will continue to believe, grow and soar our students to become successful citizens in society.”

Norman has been a professional educator for nearly 30 years, starting his career in School District Five as a physical education teacher.  He attended Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio, earning a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from the University of South Carolina.

Harbison West Elementary School offers award-winning programs and services for all students. In 2018, the school received national recognition from Special Olympics for its efforts to provide inclusive sports and activities for students with and without disabilities. The school is also home to the district’s magnet program for academically gifted elementary school students, the Escolares Academy.

Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton said, “Mr. Norman is a well-respected and well-known administrator in the School District Five community.  In his own words, he is focused on ‘empowering students and staff to maximize their potential in citizenship and education.’ This focus and his proven school leadership make him an excellent fit for Harbison West Elementary. Congratulations Mr. Norman.”
