School threats jump to 14

An Irmo Middle School student has been charged with making threats to 2 fellow students.
The student’s name will not be released because he is under 18.
He threatened to shoot 2 students in the gym locker room Oct. 9, according to reports.
The student was released to the custody of his parents after being charged.
He will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.
This is the 14th threat of violence against a local student or school since Aug. 12.
The first happened at White Knoll High when a rising junior made an online threat to shoot up his school and kill himself.
On Aug. 21, a Pelion Middle School student was arrested and charged after threatening several other students.
The student made a statement about driving his truck into the school and shooting girls with whom he had a confrontation.
A Meadow Glen Middle School student is no longer allowed on campus after sending “alarming texts” about Lexington Middle School.
A concerned parent reported their child’s threats to Lexington Police Aug. 22 after seeing them on the child’s cellphone.
On Aug. 27, a Beechwood Middle student was charged after telling a classmate he had a bomb in his bookbag.
That same afternoon, 18-year-old James Folk was arrested with a shotgun on White Knoll School grounds.
Another minor was charged in connection to the incident.
A Chapin High student was charged Aug. 29 after making a comment about an upcoming school shooting.
An Irmo Middle School student was investigated the same day after a teacher reported hearing a student make threats during a fire drill.
A 7th grader at White Knoll Middle School was charged Sept. 3 with making threats to harm a school and 3rd-degree assault and battery.
An 8th grader at Sandhills Middle School in Gaston was charged Sept. 19 with threatening a student and carrying a knife on school grounds.
An 11-year-old student was charged Sept. 24 with making threats to bomb CrossRoads Intermediate School and shoot school buses.
2 students were charged Sept. 30 in separate threat incidents.
A 13-year-old Carolina Springs Middle School student told another student he was going to “shoot up the school then shoot himself,” according to an incident report.
The other male, age 12, attends Pine Ridge Middle School in District 2. He threatened in a social media post to bring a gun to school and use it against another student.
An 11-year-old Pelion Middle School student was charged Oct. 4 with threatening to kill another student.
All suspects remain unidentified because they are minors. All those charged were released into the custody of their parents and await Family Court hearings.
“We take these threats seriously. Our agency works closely alongside the school districts to investigate the legitimacy of the threats made and to pursue charges against the offending parties.
“Our schools are sacred places where our children and their teachers should feel safe,” said Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon.
