Send your kids to summer camp

Around Red Bank

Summer is just about here, with the school year ending in days, not weeks. So, what to do with the kids? Summer camp, of course.

Lexington Family YMCA will offer several summer camp opportunities at the Jeep Rogers facility here in Red Bank. They’ll be held weekly from June 11 until August 17 for children age 5-16.

There is a half-day Young Explorers preschool camp for ages 3 and 4, and a traditional Day Camp for ages 5-12. Both of these feature the usual games, actvities, outdoor time, arts and crafts. The specialty camps for ages 5-11 include Basketball, Cheer, Toy Building Bricks, Flag Football, Tennis, Engineering, Triathlon, Art, Baseball, and Girls Rock. For older children there is a Teen Camp, ages 12-14 and a Counselor In Training program for ages 14-16. For complete information on these programs, visit columbiaymca.org and click on “Summer Camp” link.

Red Bank United Methodist Church Preschool will offer summer camps for the first time this year, with several different themes. The first week is June 11-14 with a space-themed camp, “To Infinity and Beyond,” that will include neat stuff like a session with the State Museum’s “Star Lab” portable planetarium. For more information contact the preschool at 359-0329 or visit “RBUMC Preschool” on Facebook.

There are multiple Vacation Bible School programs at area churches every summer as well. If your church has one coming up, please email me and I’ll pass that information along here.

Congratulations to Jill Ford of Carolina Springs Middle School for being named the Blanton Educational Office Professional of the Year for the State of South Carolina. She has been with Carolina Springs since it opened in 2006.

Happy birthday this week to Derrell Lambert Sr., Deb Roof, Alissa Brown, Zach Huffines, Clay Spence, Gloria Clingan, and Gladys Phillips.
