State steps up covid-19 tests to 165,000 a month

No deaths but 22 new cases in county

As positive cases rise, the state increased its goal from 110,000 to 165,000 tests a month by year's end.

The original goal of 110,000, roughly 2% of the state’s 5.2 million population, was exceeded in May.

That goal is increased to 140,000 from June to August and 165,000 the rest of 2020.

Mobile testing clinics have helped covid-19 testing reach many South Carolinians in rural and under-served areas.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control Monday announced:

1. No deaths in Lexington County but 22 new cases.

2. 1 death and 41 new cases in Columbia and Richland County.

3. 1,002 new confirmed SC cases, 2 new probable cases and 6 more confirmed deaths.

4.The total confirmed cases reached 25,666, probable cases 35, and confirmed deaths 659, .

- 4 deaths were elderly individuals in Clarendon (1), Greenville (1), Marion (1), and Richland (1) counties.

- 2 were middle-aged individuals in Darlington (1) and Lancaster (1) counties

5. New confirmed cases by county are Aiken (5), Allendale (1), Anderson (21), Barnwell (1), Beaufort (28), Berkeley (30), Calhoun (4), Charleston (209), Cherokee (6), Chester (7), Chesterfield (11), Clarendon (6), Colleton (1), Darlington (8), Dillon (4), Dorchester (16), Edgefield (1), Fairfield (2), Florence (56), Georgetown (12), Greenville (90), Greenwood (2), Hampton (1), Horry (125), Jasper (6), Kershaw (26), Lancaster (13), Laurens (17), Lee (2), Lexington (22), Marion (10), Marlboro (8), Newberry (5), Oconee (21), Orangeburg (18), Pickens (27), Richland (41), Saluda (2), Spartanburg (47), Sumter (34), Union (4), Williamsburg (6), York (46)

6. As of Sunday, 347,193 tests have been conducted in the state.

7. 31 hospital beds are occupied by covid-19 patients.
