Special Olympics raised  $22,473 at its Lake Murray Polar Plunge Saturday.

More than 300 Special Olympians and their families and supporters showed up for the chilly February event at SCE&G's Lake Murray Park on the south side of the dam. More than 100 took the plunge, a few laughing and saying they were suffering temporary insanity.

Mike Still led individual fund raising with $1,598.

The State Transport Police led teams with $4,083.

This was 1 of 4 such Special Olympics fund raisers across the state Saturday.

“Every dollar goes to support Special Olympians,” Still said. “It helps them pay for food, lodging and to participate in our events.”
