Threat at Gilbert High

15-year-old charged in 17th incident of year

Posted

A 15-year-old Gilbert High student has been charged with threatening students.
Lexington County deputies determined he made statements about killing his classmates.
This is the 17th such incident this year in Lexington County schools.
Oct. 23, a student reported to administrators that the student talked in class about hurting someone.
A teacher notified administrators that he had moved a student to in-school suspension and that the student had threatened others.
A Lexington County deputy interviewed the student at the school before releasing him to the custody of a guardian.
His name will not be released because he’s under the age of 18.
GHS administrators immediately notified the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department through the School Resource Officer, filed an incident report, contacted the student’s guardian, suspended him and recommended him for expulsion.
The student is not allowed on any Lexington District 1 property or at any events while suspended.
This is standard operating procedure.
The student will appear in Lexington County Family Court later.
The district encourages students and their parents to report any safety concerns to a school administrator, School Resource Officer, school counselor, teacher or other employee.
The district’s tip line can be reached at 803-636-8317 to report safety concerns anonymously. Safety concerns can also be emailed to
