The Town of Pine Ridge announced Friday that Nicholas “Nick” Scott has been named as the Town’s new Police Chief.

Scott said he is eager to serve the citizens of the Town of Pine Ridge and looks forward to working with a team of talented professionals in the Pine Ridge Police Department.

The incoming Police Chief will be responsible for a host of tasks including continuing the community’s policing services, growing successful public safety outreach programs as well as building trust and legitimacy.

In late March, the Town of Pine Ridge announced it is no longer employing Pine Ridge interim Police Chief Eddie Powell and Police Officer Johnathan Carswell.

The two were separated from the department at an impromptu Pine Ridge Town Council meeting, on March 22.

The Town of Pine Ridge later released a press release explaining that town officials had received a number of questions, comments and concerns pertaining to the Police Department.

Scott joins Pine Ridge after serving the City of Columbia Police Department for 10 years. A native of the Columbia area, Scott served most recently as a sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Division. Scott was responsible for overseeing Columbia’s Crime Scene Unit.

Scott will start on May 7. He will be sworn in at the town council meeting on May 8, at 6:30 p.m.
