Covid's death toll has been more than cut in half.
SC health officials reported Monday 1,109 new covid cases, down from 2,735 the day before.
31 more deaths were reported Monday, the Department of Health and Environmental Control said.
DHEC reported 1 elderly Lexington County death occurred Feb. 1
It also reported 5 elderly and 1 middle aged death in Richland County.
Richland County had the most deaths reported in SC Monday but the deaths spanned almost 2 months.
1 Richland County death actually occurred Jan 1.
DHEC also reported 86 new confirmed and 11 probable cases in Lexington County.
Richland County had 84 confirfmed new cases and 15 probable cases.
Greenville County continued to lead the state with 118 new cases.
This was a dramatic drop from the 700 - 800 cases per day Greenvile had been averaging.
If you go to scdhec.gov/covid19 to check cases in other counties, you'll see in the big blue box the new numbers for the day.
If you click the heading New Confirmed Cases and New Confirmed Deaths (they have a little icon next to them) it will take you to the list summaries by county for each day.
At least 427,763 people have tested positive in South Carolina and 7,180 have died since March.
The decline in numbers is dramatic.
At least 1,222 people were hospitalized as of Monday, marking the 14th day in a row the total decreased.
As of Monday, only 6.5% of covid tests were positive.
Before the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were released, positive tests were averaging 15% to18% daily.
Health officials have said the number should be closer to 5% to control the spread of the virus.
The state has received 970,550 doses of the 2 vaccines but given only 651,113 of those as of Monday, according to DHEC.
