A key to reopening Lexington County schools full-time is getting teachers vaccinated.
The Senate this week unanimously passed Sen. Shane Massey's resolution to do it.
House members are expected to follow.
But educators say this is more complicated than just moving them up in line.
Local parents say they want their children back in school but believe teachers should be vaccinated 1st.
A number of teachers say they are hesitant to get the vaccine.
Educators say the number of teachers who refuse to get vaccinated is a minority.
It may slow reopening but it won't stop it.
A new National Education Association survey found 84% of its members have already received the vaccine, scheduled an appointment or plan to when it becomes available.
63% of respondents said they would feel better teaching in person with the vaccine.
Only 11% of teachers said they didn’t want to get vaccinated and 5% were unsure.
Among their reasons: the vaccine was too new, they were worried about side effects and mistrusted the government.
