Curfew imposed in Columbia over coronavirus
Columbia begins a curfew at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The city announced the order late Tuesday.
The 60-day curfew is to last from 11 pm to 6 am to keep people for congregating in large groups due to coronavirus.
"This not a measure we take lightly,” said Mayor Steve Benjamin. “To get through this current public health crisis and to save lives, it will have to be a collective effort between all of us.”
The only exceptions are for work, medical, and public safety emergencies. There is also an exception for police officers, firefighters, active duty military, public works and utility workers.
