Blinded to the truth

Better news in bad times

Posted

Good Friday morning.

Bill Edmonds’ friend Ira is African American.
Bill calls himself Anglo-American.
They talked recently about personal experiences.

They agreed on some things, disagreed on others.
They agreed on a solution to many race problems.
Most would be cured if all of us were blind.

Not color blind, but completely blind.
We could not form impressions of others.
Whether they wore hoodies or business suits.
We couldn’t prejudge or reinforce stereotypes.

Without sight, 80% of what we perceive about those

who don’t look like us might be eliminated.

We might have a chance to get to know each other for

who we are, not who or what we think of each other.

The Bible has much to say about the eyes.
They can blind us to the truth.

Can you imagine what being blind would be like?
We would miss much of the beauty in our world.
We might miss a lot of the ugliness, too.

This is a provocative idea.
