The little newspaper you are reading right now has survived turbulent times.
It was born in the ruins  of Lexington in 1870 after the War Between the States.
Our early American newspapers fought for the 1st Amendment freedoms we enjoy now.
We opposed the Stamp Act and other British oppression of the time until today when millions of us are quarantined by covid-19. Newspaper people and their readers have never had much smooth sailing.
Now many businesses are hurting and their ability to advertise with us has been affected. We are thankful for those who can afford to advertise.
They keep us going.
Readers tell us they are restlessly waiting in their locked-down homes for us to bring the news online and in print. Bless the US Postal Service men and women who deliver it for us.
We do our work as best we can, some of us from home, others out of need at our office.
We, too, are disappointed by what is going on in much of the big city media – newspapers and cable and network TV. The slanted reporting, disrespectful questioning of public officials and general intemperance of some in our industry taints all of us.
Our congressman called the other day to  say the level of hostility in the White House press room is incredible.
Fortunately, we can cover the news as fairly and accurately as we can. And we make no apology to those who think we should join the shrill fake news chorus.
Through our national organizations, we’re asking Congress to give us support.  We need federal advertising to go into local newspapers, not onto Facebook or Instagram.
We need payroll loans to pay our staff and cover our costs.
We are worried about the growing federal debt and how printing money with nothing to back it devalues our dollars.
We promise we will soldier on as long as we can to bring you accurate news each day online in Thursdays on your mailbox.
Please email me your thinking on how we can do this better to JerryBellune@yahoo.com
