Something bigger than ourselves

Better news in bad times

Good Memorial Day morning, my friends.

Have you ever written reminder notes to yourself?
Bill Edmonds found this he wrote to himself in 2007:
“What are you involved in that’s bigger than yourself?”

Something bigger than ourselves is about self-sacrifice.
That’s what Memorial Day is all about, Bill says.
We honor those who gave their lives for our freedom.

We hear a lot of talk about narcissism and “me, too.”
That’s not about anything bigger than ourselves.
The narcissists are a minority in our country.
Think about the rest of us battling these hard times.
Health care workers comforting the suffering.
1st responders answering the call 24 hours a day.
Uniformed men and women engaging our enemies.
Scientists seeking cures for all that ails us,

One day our grandchildren will look back in pride.
History will show what we did when it got tough.
We are part of a Great Generation of our own.
Our challenge is to live up to that every day.
Not just on Memorial Day and all it means to us.

I would love to hear from you about this.
Please write and let me know what you think.
