Lexington and Dutch Fork split their games on Tuesday night at Wildcat Arena.

The 8rh ranked Lady Wildcats fell 53-50 in a close game that went down to the final seconds, while the Lexington boys topped Dutch Fork 60-55 for a historic 20-0 start to their season.

In the early game, Lexington traded outside shooting against Dutch Fork’s ability to draw fouls and get opportunities in the paint. The Lady Silver Foxes held a 26-25 halftime lead.

The Lady Silver Foxes contained University of South Carolina commit Olivia Thompson throughout the game, holding her to 14 points overall.

A pair of 3-pointers from Hannah Kumiyama and Alexis Sexton late in the fourth kept the Wildcats in the game with 1:29 remaining. Dutch Fork added a quick score and a pair of free throws from Katrice Jackson, who led all scorers with 20 points overall, to hold on the win.

Lexington dropped to 13-4 overall, 1-1 in region play, while Dutch Fork improved to 9-5 overall, 3-0 in the region.

The boys’ matchup saw Mason Carver add 16 points to his career total in a night that saw him scoring at key intervals to give his team a 36-28 halftime lead.

The second half saw the Silver Foxes cut the Wildcats lead, pulling within 4 points at the start of the fourth quarter. Carver again scored at the right time with a layup to widen the lead to 56-50 with 1:25 remaining. He's now 17 points shy of 1,000 career points. 

“We’re 2-0, that’s the only record that matters to us right now,” said Lexington head coach Bailey Harris, who picked up his 628th career win for 7th on the all-time list. said after the win. “This was a hard fought game against a good region team, and in our region, they’re all good teams, the level of competition is tough.”

The Wildcats’ next game is Friday at home against Chapin, while Dutch Fork (10-6, 1-2) has an in-town clash with rival Irmo.
