Airport girls' season ends with home loss

Posted

The Airport girls' basketball played host to A.C. Flora in search of a 2nd consecutive home win in the playoffs.

The Lady Eagles battled back from a double-digit deficit on Tuesday to win against Hartsville. They looked to repeat that offensive output on Friday, but eventually fell 51-40.

It was an inauspicious start for Airport (18-9) as the Lady Falcons stretched out to a double-digit lead early on. In fact, the Lady Eagles' first point didn’t come until a free throw with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter.

The Lady Eagles ramped up the offense in the second quarter, pulling within 1 after a 3-pointer at the buzzer to head into halftime trailing 25-24.

Jayla Jamison was the main force behind the second quarter rally. Jamison scored 12 of the Eagles' 24 first half points.

Airport grabbed the lead 28-25 early on in the third quarter, but the Lady Falcons' offensive attack was more than what the Lady Eagles could handle.

A.C. Flora was executing the backdoor cut flawlessly throughout the fourth quarter.

Airport’s offense fell flat in the fourth quarter, as frequent trips to the free throw line resulted in empty possessions. After 24 first half points, the Eagles only amassed 16 points in the second half.

The loss ends the Lady Eagles' phenomenal season, with the highlight being the first playoff victory since 2009.

A.C. Flora will make the trip to Myrtle Beach in the third round Monday night.

Airport, Jamison, Flora
