Airport's Jayla Jamison leads way in Chronicle Country medal count at Track and Field Championships

Saturday’s annual S.C. High School League Track and Field Championships at Harry Parone Stadium produced 6 Chronicle Country gold medalists. Leading the medal count was Airport’s Jayla Jamison. For the 2nd straight year, she garnered 4 gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400 meters and long jump. Her efforts helped Airport placed 4th overall in the Class 4A girls’ standings. Batesburg-Leesville’s Ty-Layshia West also earned multi-gold medals for the 2nd straight year. She won the discus throw and shotput. Her efforts, along with pole vault winner Lauren Caughman, propelled Batesburg-Leesville to 3rd place in Class 2A. Rounding out the gold medal girls’ winners were White Knoll’s Kaniya Johnson who won the Class 5A 100 meters. In the boys’ division, Dutch Fork’s Dallas Wise (high jump) and John Paul Hunter (pole vault) took 1st place at their respective events. S.C.
