Lexington Post 7 held off a late rally by West Columbia Post 79 for a 5-4 victory Thursday at Lexington Ballpark Road.
Down 5-3 in the Top 7th with 2 outs, Airport’s Brandon’s Caughman hit an RBI single. As Josh Wise rounded 3rd base, he was caught in a rundown and tagged out by Noah Huffmaker of Lexington to end the game.
A 2-run homer by Caughman gave West Columbia a 2-0 in the Top 1st. Eric Beebe put Lexington on the board in the bottom 1st when he scored on a passed ball by Dalton Mims.
Owen Pickel tied the game in the bottom 2nd with an RBI single. In the bottom 4th, Patrick Doyle hit a 2-run single to put Lexington ahead 4-2.
Dylan Williamson answered with a solo home run in the top 5th to cut the deficit to 4-3. Brett McEwen responded with a home run in the bottom 5th.
Aaron White picked up the win for Lexington, striking out 3 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Nate Roof picked up the save.
Mims struck out 7 in picking up the loss.
The rubber match will take place Friday at Brookland-Cayce High School.
