For the 2nd straight night, the Lexington County Blowfish were walked off on the road.

Michael Richardson’s 3-run homer in the bottom 10th gave Florence a 13-11 victory over the Blowfish.

Like the previous loss to Savannah, the walkoff hit came with 2 outs and capped a 1-4 road trip for Lexington County. The defeat also dropped the Blowfish (5-11) to last place in the South Division.

Despite outhitting the RedWolves 17-9 and getting 5 RBI from Michael Green of Clemson University, Lexington County committed a season-high 7 errors and were 10-33 with runners in scoring position.

Green opened his offensive assault with a single and scored on a fielder’s choice by Houston Wright. Florence tied the game with an RBI single by Michael Barrow off starter Josh Garner and added 4 runs off 2 Lexington County errors in the 3rd to take a 5-1 lead.

Green brought the Blowfish to within 5-3 in the 4th with a 2-run triple. He then scored on a RBI fielder’s choice by Trace Whetsell of Gilbert High School to make it 5-4.

Florence picked up a run in the bottom 4th on reliever Zach Williamson with a passed ball. Lexington County answered with a 4-run rally in the Top 5th. Zacchaeus Rasberry hit a leadoff triple and scored on Luis Acevedo’s RBI single after Josh Senter reached on an error.

A single by Ashby Smith loaded the bases. After Kitt Capell struck out, Green belted a bases-clearing double to give the Blowfish a 8-6 advantage.

Florence loaded the bases in the bottom 5th and tied the game on a 2-run single by Miguel Soto. The RedWolves reclaimed the lead on a throwing error by Capell at catcher. The Blowfish answered with a run in the 6th and 7th innings off infield errors to retake the lead.

A sacrifice fly by Florence tied the game at 10-10 in the bottom 7th. Lexington County relievers Sheldon Reed of Clemson and Ryan Flores pitched out of trouble in the 8th and 9th, respectively, to force extra innings.

Lexington County opened the top 10th with baserunners on 1st and 2nd in accordance to international tiebreaker rules. With 2 outs, James McConnon reached on the RedWolves’ 6th error of the game which drove in a run.

Blowfish reliever Will Abbott retired the first 2 batters and had a 1-2 count on Richardson before giving up the game-winning home run to Florence (7-12).

This was the 1st of 5 straight games between the 2 South Carolina rivals and evened the Interstate 20 series at 1-1. Game 3 is 7:05 a.m. at Lexington County Stadium where over 400 soldiers training at Fort Jackson are expected in attendance for Fort Jackson Night.
