All season, Lexington High School worked for homefield advantage should it face defending Class 5A Lower State champion Wando for a berth in the state finals.
The Lady Wildcats earned that opportunity Thursday after a 3-set win over Carolina Forest. They won by the scores of 25-21, 25-10 and 25-20 in the third-round matchup.
Lexington will now look to avenge last year's loss to the Lady Warriors at home Tuesday. The winner advances to Saturday's Class 5A final at White Knoll High School to face either Nation Ford or T.L. Hanna out of the Upper State.
The Lady Yellow Jackets ended Dorman's 2-year reign as Class 5A champion Thursday by winning in three sets 25-22, 25-17, 25-16. It was the first time in school history T.L. Hanna had defeated the 13-time state champion Lady Cavaliers.
Ironically, Dorman defeated Lexington in its last state championship appearance back in 2009 in Class 4A.
