The Lexington County Blowfish headed to Grayson Stadium Thursday with a twinbill against the Savannah Bananas.

The Blowfish came away with a “split” against their Peach State nemesis. They won Game 1 by a 3-1 score as Josh Senter of River Bluff had a solo home run in the 3rd inning and Shane Connelly struck out 7 in 8 innings.

The game was the continuation of a week contest over a week ago that was halted after 1 inning due to rain. The victory snapped Lexington County’s 4-game losing streaks both overall and to the Bananas.

It also ended a 9-game losing streak to Georgia-based teams for Lexington County, who were a comebined 0-7 against Savannah and Macon entering Thursday.

Game 2 was a pitcher’s dual as both teams starters and relievers combined for 7 scoreless innings. The Blowfish held the Bananas (12-6) to 3 hits, but struck out 13 times as a team.

The contest was decided on international rules wtih the last player to make an out in the previous inning at 2nd base. Turner Scruggs entered the game in relief for the Blowfish. He retired the first 2 batters before giving up a walkoff RBI single to Mike Williams.

Lexington County (5-10) closes out its 5-game road trip Friday at Florence. It’s the first of 5 straight games against the RedWolves.
