BATTER UP! Lexington County "Pancakes" to face Macon Bacon

The Blowfish will adopt a new moniker for one night

Posted

After months of anticipation, the Lexington County Pancakes will play their first-ever game at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
For Friday’s opponent, the fledgling Macon Bacon. the Blowfish will don a Pancakes logo (Flip The Pancake) and uniforms incorporating five colors: Blowfish navy, maroon, strong orange, tan, and luminous vivid amber (yellow).
The front of the jersey features “Pancakes” and a syrup-dripping spatula, while the backs will have the slogan “Batter Up” where the player’s name typically is and numbers that are dripping syrup as well.
The special jerseys will be sold at the ballpark and available at Blowfish on Main in Lexington.
In addition to the game, a pajamas drive to benefit Kellan's Closet will take place. Fans are encouraged to not only wear a pair of pajamas, but also donate another.
Following the game, a Fireworks Show show will take place.
This Sunday, Lexington County will play an exhibition game against Catawba All-Stars. Ice cream will be served at the ballpark.

TEAM UPDATE
Through one week of baseball, the Lexington County Blowfish are well ahead of last year’s pace.
Following Wednesday's 12-10 come-from-behind win over Fayetteville, the Blowfish remained steady in the “waters” of the Coastal Plain League South Division standings. Their 3-3 mark has the team 1 1/2 games behind Thursday's opponent Savannah in the Coastal Plain League standings, a far better start than the 0-8 last-place showing in 2017.
The team has also experienced its shares of highs and lows early in the campaign. After starting the season with a 7-run comeback win over Forest City at home, Lexington County was pounded in back-to-back losses to league newcomer the Macon Bacon (8-4) and the Owls (14-4).
The Blowfish nearly suffered a crushing third straight loss this past Monday after squandering a 6-1 lead at Gastonia. Lexington County rallied for the go-ahead run in the ninth and held on for the 7-6 win.

SIX  EX-BLOWFISH
SELECTED IN DRAFT

The road to the big leagues continues to go through Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
Infielders Seth Lancaster (Coastal Carolina) and Madison Stokes (the University of South Carolina) shortstop Marshawn Taylor (Grambling), outfielder Brandt Stallings (Georgia Tech) and pitchers Cody Morris (South Carolina) and Gilbert native Mitch Spires (Winthrop) heard their names called in this year's Major League Baseball draft.
Morris was selected in the seventh round by the Cleveland Indians. The righhander only threw four innings in two games last season for the Blowfish as he recovered from Tommy John surgery.
Both Lancaster and Stokes were picked by the Philadelphia Phillies. A member of the Chanticleers' 2016 College World Series championship team, Lancaster was selected in the eighth round by the Philadelphia Phillies, while Stokes was chosen two rounds later. A third-round College Baseball All-American selection, Lancaster played two seasons with the Blowfish. Stokes played in the Blowfish's inaugural season in Lexington and drove in 19 runs in 29 games.
Spires (Los Angeles Angels), Taylor (Arizona) and Stallings (Cincinnati) were all drafted in the 28th round. Spires played at Petersburg in 2015 and in Lexington with Stallings a year later. Taylor spent the last two seasons with the Blowfish.
