A season-high in runs propelled the Lexington County Blowfish to its 2nd straight win Friday night on the road.

The Blowfish defeated the Gastonia Grizzlies 14-5. Ashby Smith drove in 4 runs and Houston Wright accounted for 3 of the 14 hits posted by the Blowfish who scored  9 runs in the 5th inning to pull away for their 2nd straight victory with double-digit runs.

On the mound, Airport HIgh School graduate Jordan Beatson allowed 2 runs and 2 hits in 7 innings for the victory. Peyton Evans struck out 3 and also allowed 2 runs in finishing the game.

Jared Kirven of Lexington High School put Lexington County on the board in the top 4th with a RBI single and an error allowed Michael Green to make it 2-0.

After Gastonia answered with a run in the bottom 4th, Lexington County pounded out 5 hits and capitalized off 2 errors for 9 runs to take a 11-1 lead.

Both Jimmy Marcelli and Bob Majkowski, who left the game in the 7th after suffering an undisclosed injury attempting a catch, both had 2-run singles in the inning.

Gastonia answered with a run in the bottom 5th, then Smith had a bases-clearing double in the top 7th to make it 14-2. The Grizzlies scored on a triple in the 7th and solo home run in the 9th.

Lexington County (4-5) resumes South Division play at 7:05 pm Saturday at home against the Savannah Bananas. The Blowfish look to snap a 9-game home losing streak to Savannah dating back to July 26, 2017.

In addition, Miss Columbia Teen, Kellan Fenegan of River Bluff High School, will hold the 2nd annual Pajama Fund Drive for Kellan's Kloset which donates to foster care children in the Midlands.

Kellan's Kloset donated more than 10,000 items to Foster Care in the last year and are looking for a large turnout for the contest against the Florence RedWolves.

In edition, Fenegan has organized a group of Disney Princesses and other loved characters to raise money for Children's Miracle Network. Donations stay local at the Prisma Health Children's Hospital in Columbia.
