With 4 divisional games remaining, there's no room for error for the Lexington County Blowfish.
The Southern Summerball Series is barely within its grasps. Winning all 4 games against the Savannah Bananas and Macon Bacon would put Lexington County in position to claim the series Cup based on winning percentage.
On Monday, Lexington County picked up a 5-1 victory over Savannah at Grayson Stadium. The victory improved the Blowfish to 20-11 overall and 7-8 in the Series standings.
A 4-run 4th inning provided enough offense as Will Abbott and Christian Edwards combined for 10 of the team's 14 strikeouts. Dutch Fork graduate Ward Hacklen of Newberry broke the scoreless tie with a RBI double.
Tanner Garrison made it 2-0 after scoring on a wild pitch. An RBI single by Brennan Reback drove home Hacklen to make it 3-0 and Lexington's Jared Kirven had an RBI fielder's choice.
Bill Knight's RBI single in the top of the 6th was the lone Bananas' run. Luke Orr provided insurance in the bottom of the 7th with an RBI single to score Kirven.
Lexington County will play 4 of its final 5 games at home. It starts Wednesday against the Bomb Island Bombers in the final matchup of the Lake Murray Cup Series.
The Blowfish clinched the Series Cup with a 10-2 record against the Bombers and Purple Martins.
