After a longer hiatus than normal, the Lexington County Blowfish return to action this week. Amid the covid-19 pandemic, several Coastal Plain League teams have shelved their 2020 season plans.

However, the Blowfish, along with rivals Macon Bacon and the Savannah Bananas have formed the CPL Southern SummerBall Classic.

The champion is set to be crowned Sunday, Aug. 16.

The Blowfish will also participate in the Lake Murray Cup Series. This slate of games will take place throughout the season featuring the Blowfish, the Lake Murray Purple Martins and the Bomb Island Bombers.

Lexington County enters Year 1 of the Matt Padgett era with a roster loaded with talent. Both Clemson and South Carolina have sent a handful of talented players, with additions from Virginia Tech, LaSalle, and Michigan State to boot.

A number of local high school standouts return to Lexington County this year including Jared Kirven (Lexington), Josh Senter and Stephen Kight (both of River Bluff), Tyler Corbitt (Airport) and Ward Hacklen (Dutch Fork).

The Blowfish open the season at home 7:05 pm Wednesday against the Bomb Island Bombers. It’s the 1st of 4 consecutive home games to open the season.
