Blowfish drop 4th straight game

Posted

The offensive struggles of the Lexington County Blowfish continued Tuesday as its losing streak reached a season-high 4 in a row.

The 6-1 loss to the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms saw the Blowfish held to five hits, were struck out 12 times, were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and limited to 1 run for the 2nd straight road game.

During the losing streak, opponents have outscored Lexington County 40-7.

Meanwhile, the Blowfish allowed double-digit hits for the 4th straight game and 8th time this season.

The Hi-Toms played longball with 3 solo home runs off Blowfish starter Peyton Evans. The first occurred in the bottom 1st off the bat of Major League prospect Myles Christian.

Ironically, Christian hit a solo home run in last year’s Coastal Plain League All-Star Show at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Down 2-0 in the top 4th, the Blowfish got on the board on an RBI double by Houston Wright. The momemtum was short-lived as Blayne Jones homered in the bottom half of the inning.

The following inning, Jeremy Simpson connected on High Point-Thomasville’s 3rd home run of the game. The same inning saw Kip Brandeburg score on a balk called on Evans.

He was relieved in the Top 6th by Josh Garner, who gave up an RBI single to Josh Baker.

The HI-Toms loaded the bases in the Bottom 8th on reliever Sheldon Reed. He was replaced by Ryan Flores who escaped unscathed by retiring the next 2 batters.

Lexington County (4-9) continues its 5-game road trip Thursday at Grayson Stadium and a doubleheader with the Savannah Bananas. The Blowfish have lost the last 4 meetings to Savannah, including 3 this season, and are 0-7 this season against Georgia-based CPL teams.

Game 1 will start at 5 p.m. and both games will be 7 innings.
