Blowfish fall to Redwolves

Posted

Tuesday was truly a day for the dogs at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
The home game for the Lexington County Blowfish was the first designated "Dog Day Tuesday". Fans were allowed to bring their dogs to the ballpark for free and participate in the first "Pooch Parade" led by new Director of On-Deck Operations Phisher, a Boykin spaniel.
On the field, the Blowfish dropped their home South Division opener 12-4 to Florence. The loss dropped Lexington County to 2-3 on the season as the pitching and defense struggled again on a night the team outhit the Redwolves 16-15.
Florence opened the game with four straight hits off starter Victor Santana to take a 2-0 lead. A pair of the four errors committed by Lexington County enabled the Redwolves to score two more runs in the inning.
White Knoll graduate Mac McCurdy put the Blowfish on the board with a RBI single in the bottom of the first.
Florence answered with a run in the top of the second to make it 6-1. An RBI fielder's choice by McCurdy and RBI single by Sean Parsons of River Bluff helped Lexington County cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the third.
The Redwolves scored five unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 11-3. Chaney Rogers scored Aaron Adams in the bottom of the sixth and Florence answered with a 2-out, RBI single in the ninth.
Parsons led the Blowfish with four hits, with his former Gator teammate Adams finishing 3-4.
Lexington will head on the road the next two games, starting Wednesday at Fayetteville.
