Blowfish lose in extra innings to Stars

Posted

For the 2nd straight year, the Catawba Valley Stars claimed victory Tuesday in the annual exhibition contest at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

A 4-run rally in the Top 10th helped the Stars send the Lexington County Blowfish to a 7-3 defeat to end its 3-game homestand.

The Blowfish tied the game in the Bottom 9th on an RBI single by Jordan Holladay. It was the University of South Carolina 3rd baseman’s 3rd hit of the game.

Houston Wright attempted to score the game-winning run, but was thrown out at homeplate.

Using international tiebreaker rules in which the last 2 batters of the previous inning start the next inning at 1st and 2nd, Catawba Valley capitalized with 3 straight RBI singles off relievers Josiah Sightler and Grayson Stoneking to score 4 runs.

Lexington County’s Josh Gregory hit a leadoff single to load the bases. However, the Blowfish were held scoreless and ended the exhibition having stranded 14 baserunners.

Lexington County (1-3) returns to action Thursday at the Florence RedWolves.
