Blowfish season ends on a rainy note
The Lexington County Blowfish hoped to end its 2018 season on a winning season.
A brief, but heavy rainstorm spoiled those plans Saturday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. The bad weather washed away a 2-0 lead in the top 2nd for the Blowfish against the Macon Bacon.
With the cancellation, Lexington County (17-31, 9-15 finished the season in last place overall in the Coastal Plain League South Division and a ½ game ahead of Florence in the second-half standings.
Despite the rainout, the first-year Bacon (22-25, 9-13) still made the Petitt Cup playoffs following the RedWolves’ 2-1 win over South Division champion Savannah. It will travel to Savannah for the South semifinal.
Following the cancellation, the Blowfish completed its “Proud of be an American” jersey auction. Blowfish co-owners Bill and Vicki Shanahan also promised the team would make the post-season in 2019 and thanked the fans for their attendance during the past season.
