Blowfish split "doubleheader" with RedWolves

Posted

Tuesday started with the Lexington County Blowfish winning a 5-3 suspended game against the Florence RedWolves at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

It ended with the Blowfish dropping a rain-shortened game against the RedWolves. The 10-2 loss in eight innings saw Lexington County allow double digit runs at home for the eighth time this season and commit five errors to extend their Coastal Plain League-leading total to 96.

The Blowfish (18-31, 9-14) nearly had as many errors as hits (6), while Florence designated hitter Griffin Hulecki went 5-5 with 2 RBI.

Prior to the regularly-scheduled game, the two teams completed their July 25th 7-inning contest halted in Florence due to fog. Tied at 2-2 at the time of stoppage, the Blowfish added three more runs to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom 7th.

Carson “Mac” McCurdy of White Knoll High School had a 2-run double and Cole Tate added a sacrifice fly. C.J. Smith pitched the bottom half of the inning and allowed a 2-out bloop RBI single to Greg Vaughn Jr. He accounted for all three runs scored in Game One by the RedWolves (22-26, 7-15) to go with two RBI in the second game.

Smith got the potential tying run in Brock Hallum to ground out to end the first game.

Lexington County returns to action Thursday at home against Forest City.
