Chapin routs Lexington 18-6 in girls lacrosse to close in on undefeated regular season

Lady Eagles take 11-0 mark to Irmo Thursday in regular-season finale

The first year in Class 5A girls’ lacrosse has gone perfectly so far for Chapin High School.

Fresh off a road victory over nemesis Wando, the Lady Eagles are poised to reach another milestone. With Wednesday’s 18-6 win at Lexington, they are a victory away from a first-ever undefeated regular season.

“It would mean a lot,” head coach Jen Green said. “I think the girls have worked so hard and to see it all come together and to end with a perfect record and then go into the playoffs, that would carry us a long way.”

Chapin posted 9 goals in each half against the Lady Wildcats. Jordan Green accounted for 7 goals and 3 assists and Riley Ford added 4.

It was the 1st loss in Region 5, District 3 for Lexington (8-2, 4-1), while the Lady Eagles improved to 11-0 overall, 3-0 in the region/district.

Chapin can clinch 1st place and an undefeated regular season Thursday at W.C. Hawkins Stadium against Irmo. Despite the record, the Lady Eagles would travel to Wando for the Lower State final should both teams advance that far based on predetermined homefield advantage.

The 11-7 win over the Lady Warriors this past Saturday does give Chapin confidence in the event of a rematch.

“It helps tremendously,” Green said. “If we had gone there and lost in the regular season, it would have been really difficult to go on the road and try to beat them in the playoffs. But knowing that we can do it at their homefield goes a long way for us.”
