Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 is headed back to the S.C. American Legion championship.
It defeated Sumter Post 15 4-1 Thursday at Spirit Communications Park, competing the final 2 1/3 innings of a contest suspended a night earlier due to rain.
Sumter picked up a run in the bottom 6th, but Wesley Livingston pitched a perfect seventh inning to seal the win for Post 193/24.
Chapin/Newberry will seek its third state championship in six years against the same Sumter team at 4 p.m. Friday. Following the loss, Post 15 rebounded to defeat defending state champion Florence Post 1 by a 4-2 score.
Should Sumter win, a deciding game will take place at 7 p.m. Both teams have qualified for the Southeast Regional set for Aug. 8 in Asheboro, N.C.
