A Game 5 will take place Friday at Stevens Field to determine which South Carolina American Legion Upper State team will advance to the 3rd round.
Defending state champion Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 (11-13) looked to close out the series Thursday against Greer Post 115 on its homefield at Newberry College. Getting a complete game effort from Joshua Fenton and collecting 11 hits, Greer (14-6) evened the series with a 7-2 victory.
A 5-run, 6-hit 2-inning against Chapin/Newberry starter Chase Hood was the difference in the contest for Post 115. Tyler Perry and Joseph Mershon each drove in 2 runs and Mershon, Clayton Wilson, J.T. Morris and Benjamin Thornton each had 2 hits to lead the offense.
Chapin/Newberry's runs came in the 2nd off an error and a RBI fielder's choice by Brady Koosa. Trent Polly accounted for 3 of the team's 10 hits.
Friday's winner will face the Game 5 winner between Greenwood or Rock Hill in the 3rd round starting Monday. The latter series will be decided Friday as well in Greenwood.
