This week’s SC Prep Football Media poll saw Brookland-Cayce and Gilbert flip standings in Class 3A.

The 35-34 win moved the Bearcats up to eigth, while the Indians fell from sixth to 10th place. The two teams are locked in a four-way tie for first place in Region 5-3A with Orangeburg-Wilkinson and Strom Thurmond.

Both teams are home this week. Brookland-Cayce (5-2, 2-1) plays host to Swansea (0-6, 0-3), while Gilbert (6-2, 2-1) is at home with the Rebels (4-2, 2-1).

Irmo also moved up two places to 8th in Class 4A. The Yellow Jackets’ 28-27 win over AC Flora gave them sole possession of first place in Region 4-4A.

Irmo (4-2, 3-0) can clinch a share of their first region title since 2009 with a win Friday at Westwood (3-4, 2-1).

Meanwhile, the defending state champion Falcons were knocked off the top perch where they had stayed since the start of the regular season. Despite still receiving thre first place votes, AC Flora dropped to fourth in the poll.

Greenville took over the No. 1 position even though second ranked Myrtle Beach received two more first place votes.

In Class 5A, idle Lexington moved up to seventh place. The Wildcats return to action Friday at top-ranked Dutch Fork with the Region 5-5A title on the line.

While Lexington (6-1, 2-0) enters the game winners of 6 straight, the Silver Foxes (7-0, 3-0) look to extend several winning streaks as it looks to claim a 12th consecutive region title:

  • 57 consecutive games without a loss
  • 56 consecutive in-state victories
  • 29 consecutive home games without a loss
  • 28 consecutive in-state home victories
  • 27 consecutive region wins
