Chronicle Country graduates are making an impact at the next level.

This past week saw 2 former basketball standouts earn conference Player of the Week honors and a pair of former state champion teammates at White Knoll High School make strong debuts at their new college homes:

WINSTON HILL (Irmo High/Francis Marion)

The Patriots’ center earned last Monday his 2nd Peach Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award. He averaged 30.5 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block in 2 games during the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2.

Hill also shot 61.5 percent from the field and played 77 minutes as the Patriots split the two games. He’s averaging a Peach Belt-best 20 points per game and is fourth in rebounding (8.7 boards per game).

TOMMY BRUNER (Gray Collegiate/USC-UPSTATE)

The former 2-time Class 2A champion with the War Eagles had a rewarding week.

He was named Big South Freshman of the Week for the 2nd time this season and was honored as the National Mid-Major Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

"It's really just a blessing for me," Bruner told College Sports Madness. "Working hard, preparing the right way, eating the right things and treating my body right, show that hard work pays off. It's been a team effort from the coaches, to the trainers and my teammates for putting me in situations to succeed both on and off the court."

Bruner averaged 29.0 points, including a 30-point outing against Campbell on Feb. 2. He shot 62 percent from the floor, 67 percent from beyond the arch and 67 percent from the free throw line. He's averaging 14 points, 2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 25 games.

HANNAH GOODWIN (White Knoll/Clemson)

The Lady Tiger freshman infielder made school history for the fledgling program. She belted a go-ahead 3-run homer in the 5th inning - the program’s 1st - to lift Clemson to a 6-2 win over St. John’s on Feb. 1 in the University of Central Florida’s Black and Gold Tournament in Orlando, Fla.

Through 5 games, Goodwin is batting .286 with 6 RBI.

ANDREA LYON (White Knoll/Gardner-Webb)

The 2018 Lexington Chronicle Player of the Year opened her collegiate career with a bang. In the season-opener against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Feb. 7, she had a 2-run single in her 1st at-bat. The following inning, Lyon belted a 3-run homer and added a RBI double in the 3rd to finish with 6 RBI. On the mound, she struck out 3 of the 1st 4 batters faced and finished with 7 in 4 ⅔ innngs in a 19-1 season-opening win.

The following night, Lyon had 7 strikeouts in a 5-3 win over Youngstown State. She is 2-0 on the season with a 2.80 ERA to go with a .417 batting average.
