As an offensive line coach at Dutch Fork, Taylor was a part of its '4-peat’ Class 5A championship run.
The Benedict College graduate now looks to find success in the “Diamond Mine”. On Tuesday, Taylor was approved by the Richland 1 School District board as head football coach of Lower Richland High School.
Taylor replaces Rodney Barr, who left to coach Scott’s Branch High School after leading the Diamond-Hornets to 2 region titles.
“We would like to welcome Coach Marlin Taylor to the Diamond Mine,” tweeted Lower Richland Athletics. “Looking forward to his leadership as our new head football coach.”
A native of Hopkinsville, Kent., Taylor played his senior year of high school football at St. John’s High School under Hall of Fame head coach Robert “Bob” Biggerstaff and was selected to play in the 1997 Shrine Bowl.
After graduating from Benedict College, Taylor began his coaching career as an assistant and head wrestling coach at W.J. Keenan High School in 2008. He moved up to serve similar positions at Ridge View before moving on to Dutch Fork in 2015.
“The DF Football Family would like to congratulate Coach Marlin Taylor for being selected as Head Coach for Lower Richland HS,” tweeted Dutch Fork Athletics. “Thank you for all that you’ve done for our program! We know you’ll be successful and we couldn’t be prouder!”
