A 3rd straight Class 5A championship, a second undefeated season in 3 years and a 25-game winning streak has earned statewide praise for the Dutch Fork football team.
The respect has apparently extended nationally based on the latest high school rankings by USA Today Sports. The latest Super Expert Top 25 has the Silver Foxes leapfrogging five places up to 12th after a 13-0 season.
Allen (Texas), a team Dutch Fork faced back to 2014 and lost 58-53, holds the top spot. It is one of 5 teams that will play state semifinals this week.
The publication asks if this the Palmetto State’s best team ever, citing the Silver Foxes' margin of victory (771-131) and just under 60 points per game average.
The Silver Foxes are positioned even higher in the publication's Southeast regional rankings at number 3 behind IMG Academy out of Florida and Colquitt County out of Georgia. The next poll is scheduled for Dec. 17.
