The memories of a nightmarish 1st half of the Coastal Plain League season are a distant memory for the Lexington County Blowfish.
It was officially replaced Tuesday night at Luther Williams Field with the reality of sole possession of 1st place in the South Division in the 2nd half of the season. After squandering a 6-run lead, Lexington County scored twice in the top of the 9th and held on for a 11-10 road victory over the Macon Bacon.
Luis Acevedo's RBI sacrifice fly in the Top 9th proved to be the game-winner. In the Bottom 9th, Macon cut the lead to 1 following back-to-back 2-out triples. Reliever Ryan Flores got Logan Fink to ground out to end the game.
Lexington County (14-22, 7-4) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top 1st. After Macon answered with 2 runs in the bottom 1st, Acevedo singled home a run in the 3rd to make it 6-2.
Macon (22-13, 6-4) got a run back in the 6th on the first of two triples by Chris Gentry. Lexington picked up 3 runs in the Top 7th on an RBI single by Josh Gregory and 2-run single by Jared Kirven to make it 9-3.
Lexington County's relievers struggled again as Macon erupted for 6 runs in the 8th. The rally was capped by a game-tying 3-run homer by Jared Miller off reliever Brock Robinson.
In the top 9th, Tristen Hudson reached on a 1-out single and scored on Gregory's double. He later scored the crucial insurance run on Acevedo's flyout.
The Blowfish will look to complete a sweep of the Peach State Wednesday when it travels to Grayson Stadium to face the Savannah Bananas. The game can be heard on www.blowfishradio.com .
