FRIDAY NIGHT BOYS HOOPS - Lexington, River Bluff win to set up Tuesday showdown

Wildcats improve to 21-0, Carver reaches 1,000 career points

Another night of milestones for the 5th ranked, undefeated Lexington boys' basketball team.
Friday's 68-39 win over Chapin extended the Wildcats' best start and longest in-season regular season streak in school history to 21-0. More important, they kept pace with River Bluff in the Region 5-5A standings at 3-0 heading into Tuesday's home showdown.
"I was very proud of that," Lexington head coach Bailey Harris said. "They've been very good at not looking behind them of what they've done or ahead of them of what's next. They've come to play every game this year. That's been one great thing about this team is they've been ready to play. They don't always get off to a great start. We usually do, but we don't always. But they come ready to play and they were focused?
In addition to the win, senior guard Mason Carver reached a personal milestone. Scoring 20 of his game-high 29 points in the first half, he became the latest Lexington player to surpass 1,000 career points.
Carver hit a free throw with 3:24 left in the second quarter to reach the mark. The Wildcats went on to outscore the Eagles 18-3 in the quarter to take a 35-14 halftime lead.
The final margin of victory marked the largest lead of the contest.
"He was really good," said Harris about Carver. "He had that little mid-range shot. He and Bradley Foulks (who finished with 9) did just such a good job of taking care of the ball, whether it was Will (Edwards, who had 10 points) for the 3s or Mason, they just did a great job of finding their teammates...and playing defense."

Mason Rumph had 12 points and Jalen Jennings finished with 11 for the Timberwolves.
