FRIDAY NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WEEK 4 - Smith scores 9 TDs in wild White Knoll victory

Before a televised audience, quarterback Aveon Smith and the White Knoll football team put on an offensive show Friday night at home.

The high-scoring 68-42 win over Gray Collegiate saw the Miami (Ohio) commitment amass 9 touchdowns - 5 passing, 4 rushing - and 450 total yards of offense. T.J. Peeples rushed for 139 yards and Darius Derrick-Jones and David Caulder both had 2 receiving touchdowns. 

The contest featured 4 ties and 3 lead changes before the Timberwolves took the lead for good on a 1-yard touchdown run by Smith with 13 seconds left before halftime. 

White Knoll ran off 27 unanswered points before quarterback Hunter Helms found Omarian Dolleson for a 35-yard touchdown. Helms finished with 402 passing yards and 4 TDs and Dolleson had 11 receptions for 211 yards and 3 scores.  

Friday marked the 2nd time in school history and first time since 2013 the Timberwolves start a season 5-0. It will have a bye week and look to set the school record for best start Oct. 4 against Lexington.

Gray Collegiate (2-3) will also have a bye and returns to action Oct. 4 at Lamar. 

Chapin 41, Spring Valley 38 (OT)

Roger Pedroni’s 7-yard touchdown run in overtime answered Spring Valley’s field goal and claimed the victory for the Eagles.

Pedroni accounted for 3 rushing yards and threw 2 touchdown passes of 70 and 24 yards to Zavier Short to lead Chapin (3-1). Cooper Evans had a 17-yard TD run for the Eagles, who face longtime rival A.C. Flora next week at Memorial Stadium in Columbia. 

Dutch Fork 49, Blythewood 13

The unbeaten streak is now 30 in a row as well as 20 straight road victories for the 3-time defending Class 5A champion Silver Foxes.

Dutch Fork (3-0-1) jumped out a 49-0 halftime advantage. Quarterback Ty Olenchuk threw for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns, both to Jalin Hyatt who had 5 receptions for 135 yards, and Jon Hall rushed for 97 yards and 4 TDs. 

Defensively, Dutch Fork held the Bengals to 16 rushing yards and forced 3 fumbles. 

Up next for the Silver Foxes is a road trip to Northwestern. 

Lexington 20, Batesburg-Leesville 19

Trailing 19-10 through 3 quarters, the Wildcats scored 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to hold off the Panthers. 

Taylor Mathias rushed for 2 touchdowns, including the game-tying score from 31 yards to set up the go-ahead PAT by Brady Bolin with 3:53 left in the game.

Ahmed Bynem-Scott rushed for 178 yards, followed by Mathias with 73 yards to lead Lexington (4-1). 

For Batesburg-Leesville (2-3), quarterback Tre Robinson threw for 153 yards and 2 TDs and rushed for 41 yards and a score. 

The Panthers are idle, while Lexington travels to Spring Valley.

Airport 42, Lower Richland 30

Nanders Lawrence had 168 total yards of offense and 2 touchdowns and Markco Gilmore threw 2 touchdowns and rushed for another in the non-region win.

The Eagles (3-2) are idle next week and play host to Midland Valley on Oct. 4.
