Hall takes humble approach towards success with Dutch Fork

Dutch Fork remains atop final regular season S.C. Prep Football Media poll

Jonathan Hall does not receive the spotlight as some of his high-profile offensive teammates at Dutch Fork High School.

In his 1st full season as a starter, the senior running back has proven as equally productive on the ground as the Silver Foxes’ passing game. His 22 touchdowns is second only to quarterback Ty Olenchuk and he’s within striking distance of 1,000 rushing yards.

As Dutch Fork, ranked 22nd in this week's USA Today Super 25 rankings, prepares for Friday’s 1st round Class 5A playoff contest Friday against Chapin, Hall is ready for the increased attention.

“Jon has just been looking for an opportunity,” said tight ends coach Anthony Smith, who previously worked with the running backs. “An opportunity presented itself and I think he’s always been ready to step in because last year he stepped in for Ron (Hoff) a lot. He played a lot in the 2nd half and he did a good job. I thought Jon could get the job done as well as Ron. He was ready, the opportunity came and so now, he’s taking advantage of it.

The aforementioned Hoff was a major cog in the Silver Foxes’ 3 straight Class 5A championships. He transferred to Katy, Texas this year where has led the nationally 7th ranked Tigers to an undefeated regular season with 1,123 yards and 15 TDs.

Hall has produced similar numbers for the Silver Foxes. He’s rushed for 823 yards, has 6 games of 2 or more touchdowns and has 29 receptions for 318 yards.

“He (Ron) did some great things when we were here and I had big shoes to fill,” Hall said.

Smith said Hoff and Hall are effective in their own unique way. He described Hall as more of a ‘slasher” and a faster, more elusive version of Hoff.

Smith added Hall’s pass-catching ability fits in well with Dutch Fork's pass-oriented offense.

In deflecting praise, Hall credits his teammates upfront for the team’s success.

“It’s happened because of my o-line,” Hall said. “They’ve really done amazing this year. It’s not just me scoring sometimes. I feel like it’s them as well.”

“I think Jon’s a humble kid,” Smith said. “I’ve been knowing Jon since middle school. He’s a humble kid. He’s all about team and he doesn’t really care about who gets the shine. He just shows up for work everyday and does what he has to do.”

After the season, Hall will participate in the Columbia Metro Bowl Dec. 20 at Brookland-Cayce High School. He will play for the West team with an opportunity to finally receive college offers.
