HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL - Dutch Fork girls win 6th straight, improve playoff hopes

Posted

Watch and wait.
It's the position the Dutch Fork girls' basketball team placed itself in regards to playoff positioning.
Friday's 59-30 win over Chapin put the Lady Silver Foxes into sole possession of 2nd place in Region 5-5A. Only the top 2 teams from each region will make the SC High School League playoffs and Lexington secured the top spot with Thursday's win over White Knoll.
Dutch Fork (8-4, 5-3) will now await the outcome of Saturday's 4 pm game between White Knoll and River Bluff to further determine its playoff prospects. A win by the host team Lady Gators would clinch 2nd place for the Lady Silver Foxes, while a loss would mean a 3rd matchup at a neutral site next week with the Lady Timberwolves at a neutral site to determine the playoff seed.
"We are rooting for River Bluff," said Dutch Fork head coach Faye Norris, whose team has won 6 straight games. "So hopefully, River Bluff will win. But, we knew what spot we were going to be in, that we wanted to be in. We would not depend on anybody's wins and losses. We just said 'Okay girls, let's just win it. We were not going to depend on anybody else. So they put themselves in a good situation."
Chapin looked to play the 'spoiler' role early. Taking advantage of the height advantage in the paint with 6'6 center Trinity Curry, the Lady Eagles had a 10-9 lead at the end of the 1st quarter
Curry scored all of her team-high 9 points in the 1st quarter. She got into foul trouble, however, and Dutch Fork capitalized to take control of the game.
Forward Hillary Offing scored 8 of her 17 points in the 2nd quarter to help the Lady Silver Foxes built a 12-point lead.
Chapin rallied to within 27-21 at halftime. Dutch Fork broke the game open in the 2nd half led by guard Krystian Spratley who outscored the Lady Eagles in the 2nd half 10-9 in joining Offing with 17 points.
Dutch Fork extended its lead as many as 30 points as it held Chapin (3-9, 0-8) to 3 field goals in the 2nd half. Senior McKenzie Lott had 7 points in her final game for the Lady Eagles.
