HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL - Irmo sweeps Sumter to claim 1st in region

The Irmo basketball teams came away with a pair of close victories Tuesday in Sumter. 
Maliyah Mason's layup lifted the 2nd ranked Lady Yellow Jackets to a 38-36 victory. Jayla Lovett posted a career-high 25 points and Ehrial Wagstaff added 11 points for Irmo (16-3, 4-0). 
It was the 401st career win for Monica Williams, tying her with Orangeburg-Wilkinson's Edward Pellman on the S.C. High School League career wins list.
In the boys' game, the 3rd ranked Yellow Jackets held on for a 33-31 win. C.J. Washington had 11 points and Xavier Forest had 10 rebounds to lead Irmo (17-3), who were outscored 9-5 in the 4th quarter. It was career win #774 for head coach Tim Whipple, the active leader among S.C. High School League boys' basketball coaches. 
Irmo travels to Spring Valley Friday.


GIRLS BASKETBALL
Airport 47, Brookland-Cayce 16

Jayla Jamison scored 17 points and Caliegh Corbitt had 14 to lead the Lady Eagles (14-6, 4-1).
They next travel to Midland Valley on Friday.


White Knoll 54, Dutch Fork 46
The Lady Timberwolves moved into a 3-way tie with Lexington and River Bluff in Region 5-5A with Tuesday's win.
White Knoll plays host to the Lady Wildcats Friday. 


BOYS BASKETBALL
Airport 55, Brookland-Cayce 54 
Jeremiah Harris scored 15 points and Nanders "Butch" Lawrence finished with 11 to lead the Eagles over their crosstown rival.
Jamari Kennedy had 12 points and Chamar Martin added 11 to lead the Bearcats.


Dutch Fork 55, White Knoll 45
Jarvis McClurkin scored 15 points and A.J. Knight added 9 to lead the 9th ranked Silver Foxes (14-6, 3-1). 
The win moved them into a 1st place tie with Dutch Fork in Region 5-5A. Up next is a rematch at home against Chapin.
