HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS - Region 5-5A teams Dutch Fork, River Bluff boys win playoff openers

Posted

Region 5-5A had a strong showing to the opening round of the SC High School League boys' basketball playoffs.
Both Dutch Fork and River Bluff came away with lopsided victories Tuesday night.
The 4th ranked Silver Foxes defeated West Ashley 84-49 at home. Meanwhile, the 9th ranked Gators rolled to a 59-41 road victory over 10th ranked Fort Dorchester.
"The region got us prepared and I'm sure it got River Bluff prepared too," Dutch Fork head coach Brett Jones said.
Both teams will head on the road Friday for its quarterfinal matchups. Dutch Fork will face another "Gators" team in undefeated 3rd ranked Goose Creek, while River Bluff heads to the Grand Strand for the 2nd straight year to face 6th ranked Carolina Forest.

Dutch Fork 84, West Ashley 49
Practice time was apparently just what the doctor ordered for the defending Class 5A Lower State champions.
The Silver Foxes (11-2) scored the game's 1st 6 points, 4 by Houston Jones who finished with a team-high 19 points. He also connected on 4 of the Silver Foxes' 10 3-pointers as it led as many as 29 points in the game.
JT Renner accounted for 3, 3-pointers in the 1st half. He and Jordan Campbell finished with 11 points each. Zayan Rivers had 10 points and GG Gary came off the bench to score all 9 of his points in the 4th quarter to match teammate Jarvis Green.
"We had practice Friday, Sunday and Monday, so 3 good practices, we practiced well," Dutch Fork head coach Brett Jones said. "Also playing as well helps, too. Anything you shoot the ball, Coach (Bailey Harris) will tell you, score some points, takes some pressure off the defense and we shot the ball well.
"We do have multiple guys that can shoot it and I was glad to see obviously Houston shoot it well and JT and Jarvis was getting to the hole and Jordan. So everybody was kind of complementing each other and that's what good basketball teams do."
Monquese Jenkins scored a game-high 24 points, Jahleel Porter had 12 points and Noah Stevens finished with 11 points for the Wildcats.

River Bluff 58, Fort Dorchester 41
For the 2nd straight year, a Region 5-5A team came away with a victory at "The Fort".
Like Dutch Fork, the Gators took an early 6-0 lead. They also connected on 7 3-pointers, 6 in the 1st half, in jumping out to a 36-13 halftime advantage.
River Bluff (11-4) led as many as 27 points in the 3rd quarter to earn a return trip to Conway.
Malachi Reeves had 12 points, Grayson Renner had 11 and forward Myles Jenkins finished with 10 for River Bluff.
