HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING - River Bluff, White Knoll grapple for 1st place in Region 5-5A

Posted

The Swamp is the site Wednesday for a region title showdown.
Top 10 wrestling teams River Bluff and White Knoll face each other for 1st place. The winner would have the inside track for the Region 5-5A title, 1 the Gators have won the past 3 seasons.
“Our guys are ready,” White Knoll head coach Kyle Kimrey said. “We got a group of kids that love to wrestle, so we don’t dwell on any match being big. We just got to go wrestle and have fun doing it.”
“White Knoll is a very experienced team with a good amount of seniors leading the way,” River Bluff head coach Evan Moxie said. “They have continued their development and are a very tough team.”
Kimrey said River Bluff is always a “well-conditioned” and “strong” team who will be competitive at all weight classes. The key to upending the Gators is taking advantage of open opportunities when given the chase.
“As far as the match up and having strengths somewhere, it’s not like that with them,” Kimrey said. “Some duals I can say we are going to definitely win these weights, but with them I can’t do that. We just have to go wrestle well and see what happens.”
Moxie said he works everyday to help fix any team weaknesses and believes his team is heading in the right direction entering the end of the regular season and postseason.
“The athletes’ mindset heading into matches primarily falls on the shoulders of the coaching staff,” Moxie said. “It is our job to make sure they are in the right mental space before every match.”
Each team had 1 region match remaining following Wednesday’s match. White Knoll will face Dutch Fork and Silver Bluff at home in a tri-match at 6:30 pm Thursday, while River Bluff invites Lexington to The Swamp at 6:30 pm Friday.
