J.F. Byrnes gets "Showcase" sweep at Lexington

The Showcase at Lexington was 1 for the visiting teams from the Upstate on Saturday. 

Both the J.F. Byrnes boys’ and girls’ team defeated Lexington for the sweep. 

Visiting J.F. Byrnes rolled to a 81-40 victory over the Wildcats in the boys’ contest. Dessie Canty led a trio of double-figure scores for the Rebels with 21 to earn Game MVP honors.

Dustin Gillum finished with 13 points and Tay Braton added 10 for J.F. Byrnes, who jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the first 2 minutes and connected on 10 3-pointers. 

It was the lowest point total of the season for Lexington (10-6), who were also whistled for 2 technical fouls. The gymnasium was also affected by an exterior power outtage which left only emergency power available for 15 minutes. 

Cam Scott had a game-high 24 points and Adin Daniels finished with 10 for the Wildcats. 

The girls’ contest was won by J.F. Byrnes 63-55 in what was a tale of 2 halves. 

J.F. Byrnes built a commanding 1st half lead with 3 scoring runs. After Lexington scored the opening basket, it answered with an 8-2 run. 

A 10-0 run in the 2nd quarter boosted the Lady Rebels’ lead to 34-19 in the 2nd quarter. After a field goal brought Lexington to within 13 with 4 ½ minutes left, J.F. Byrnes closed out the 1st half with a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 46-21 at the half. 

The 2nd half saw the Lady Wildcats outscore the Lady Rebels 34-17. Senior point guard Alexis Sexton and Mallory Nichols led the spirited comeback with 25 and 20 points, respectively, and Lindsay Garner added 11 points in the post.

Jada Burton was 1 of 3 J.F. Byrnes players in double figures with 18 points to earn Game MVP honors. Savannah Porterfield had 17 points, Damaya McMillian finished with 10 and Najah Gilliam had 8. 

Lexington returns to action Tuesday at home versus Aiken. 

A.C. Flora 45, Dutch Fork 43

Robert McCray stole the inbounds pass with 4 seconds left and J.B. Moore turned the pass from a left-handed layup as time expired to lift the Class 4A 5th ranked Falcons to their 5th straight victory.

McCray scored 18 points to earn Game MVP honors. Moore and Riches McDaniel each had 8 points for A.C. Flora (12-2). 

Jarvis Green led Dutch Fork (8-3) with 10 points before fouling out in the 4th quarter and J.T. Renner finished with 9.

The Silver Foxes will try to snap their 3-game skid Monday at home versus North Augusta. 

W.J. Keenan 58, Cross Creek (Ga.) 54

Jazian Gortman has 27 points and Raekwon Horton added 20 to lead the top-ranked Raiders (9-6). They next travel to Fairfield-Central on Friday.

Kobe Stewart led the Razorbacks (12-4) with 27 points and Corey Trotter added 11.

River Bluff 57, Lakewood 52

Josh Crenshaw scored 24 points and Myles Jenkins added 19 as the 5th ranked Gators won in non-region play on Saturday.

Travelers Rest 58, Irmo 48

Dylan Williams scored 18 points and had 5 steals and Cameron Readus added 7 points as the 4th ranked Yellow Jackets fell at the Prep Hoops SC Showcase at Greenville High School.

Irmo travels to River Bluff on Tuesday. 

White Knoll 70, Military Magnet 35

Jaylan Ray and Braxton Evans each scored 15 points and Devin Stone added 11 in the win for the Timberwolves.

White Knoll (11-5) play host to Camden on Tuesday. 

(GIRLS)

River Bluff 59, Lakewood 58

J.P. Wilson hit the tiebreakinglayup and Reagan Rozier added a free throw to lift the Lady Gators to victory.

Wilson finished with 17 points and Samira Khalil added 15 for River Bluff, who play host to Irmo Tuesday.
 

Irmo 59, Mauldin 41

Maliyiah Mason scored 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Jayla Lovett had 14 points and Ehrial Wagstaff collected 10 steals for the Lady Yellow Jackets (10-2) in the win at the Prep Hoops SC Showcase.

Irmo travels to River Bluff on Tuesday.
